Hello hello VBG readers. As you may have read in last week’s announcement, I recently joined forces with Lucia to bring YOU new interesting articles about vintage in our beloved city, Berlin. I hope you will enjoy my efforts to inform and to explore what our wonderful metropolis has to offer. I am very excited about this new adventure and I look forward to interacting with you.
As my first entry, I thought I would present you with a compilation of the best footage of Berlin, from 1900 through the 1920s to the 1960s.
As we will all agree, our town has one of the most interesting and complex histories as far as cities are concerned, varying from exhilarating to downright painful. That’s why seeing footage of times past, before or just after big events changed the city’s face for ever, is very moving. Cities are made up of people and constant change, so it’s good to grasp fleeting moments as times go by.
Now grab a glass of wine, dim the lights and enjoy!
- THE ode to Berlin and German cinema classic ‘Die Sinfonie der Großstadt’ (Symphony of a great city), by Walther Ruttmann, 1927. Full version.
- ‘Weltbühne Berlin Die Zwanzige Jahre’. 1920s Berlin, a documentary with lots of interesting information (in German); beautiful footage.
- Berlin in July 1945, restored footage in colour. Another one not to be missed!
